GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - When artists entered in this year’s ArtPrize competition arrive in Grand Rapids this summer, many are going to have needs…Everything from help moving or setting up their artwork to a place to stay… (read full article)
For those who aren’t familiar with ArtPrize, it is “A radically open art competition, giving away the world’s largest art prize.” For two weeks in early autumn, hundreds of artists and thousands of visitors flood the streets of Grand Rapids, Michigan for “part arts festival, part social experiment” where the public votes on their favorite works of art.
Those artists come from around the world, many of them visiting the area for the first time. To connect that artist with a friendly host helps to “expand the good feeling an artist gets when they come to Grand Rapids.”
Though they’ve been difficult to coordinate in the past, ArtPrize knows that most of the needs of these artists are within the capability of the art community. So this year they’ve enlisted the power of TheCommon.org to help connect artists with needs and those people willing and able to help. We’ll be sharing more in the coming days and weeks, but for now, take a look at the video WZZM-13 put together on the launch event:
